Jan Schuring gives space to new Twente Airport director

With the board's approval, Jan Schuring will step down as acting director of Twente Airport on July 1. “The Joint Regulation (GR) Technology Base is preparing important choices about the future of both the airport and the business park in the coming months. I find it important that a new director helps shape this future from the start. I am therefore going to take advantage of my retirement a little earlier” says Jan Schuring. It is the intention of the GR board that a successor will take over his broad range of tasks shortly after the summer vacations.

As owners of Technology Base and Twente Airport, the province of Overijssel and the municipality of Enschede are working on the further development of the business park and the airport. This involves the necessary challenges and tasks. Jan was planning to hand over his work to a successor this fall due to his approaching retirement. These current tasks require the solid involvement of a new director as soon as possible, who will help shape the outcome of both processes and then take charge of implementation. The new dynamics surrounding the government's exploration of the use of the airport for defense purposes reinforces this.

Jan: “The complex range of tasks requires a quick start of a new director and I am glad that in that context I am given the space to step down a little earlier.”

Jan Schuring is general director of Technology Base as of December 2019. He has also assumed the directorship of the airport as an observer from January 2021. During his time as director, Schuring has dabbled in various dossiers and managed to bring them to a successful conclusion. Under his leadership, for example, a new future perspective for the airport was drawn up. With a focus on the concept of test airport and sustainable forms of mobility. Under Schuring's leadership, the GR also put many important preconditions for the business park in order and all the existing real estate was put into use.

Jeroen Diepemaat, chairman of the Technology Base Joint Arrangement, expresses his praise and appreciation for the way Jan Schuring has led Technology Base and Twente Airport. “I want to thank Jan very much for his dedication and leadership during his time as managing director. Thanks to Jan we have been able to make great strides in recent years in terms of new business activity for the region. And were able to work together on a healthy exploitation of Twente Airport. In a dynamic and challenging playing field, full of challenges, this is certainly not an easy task. For this, Jan deserves nothing but praise.”

Jan Schuring will take his leave of the organization from both positions in July.
