26 and 30 January: NLR radar tests at Twente Airport

On 26 and 30 January, NLR will be conducting tests at Twente Airport with their research aircraft Cessna Citation II (PH-LAB), subject to conditions (including weather conditions). A new radar has been installed in the nose of the PH-LAB. The part of the test that will take place at Twente Airport will assess whether the radar can accurately detect a moving object on the ground.

The moving object is a moving car driving up and down the runway. The test will be carried out at Twente Airport because there is not much traffic either on the ground or in the air, which means that the test can be carried out safely and without “noise” from other moving objects.

The tests are likely to take place on both days from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. During the 1.5 hours, a number of “low” passes will be made over the runway at 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 ft (between 450 and 1,500 metres), possibly supplemented by a “dive” above the runway, which will be broken off at 1,000 ft.
